EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an effective treatment for trauma.
Eye movements are used by the therapist (or other stimulations eg. tapping) to trigger Rapid Eye Movement (REM) which is how our brains naturally heal traumatic memories. This means that EMDR can work quickly and can be more effective in dealing with traumatic memories than traditional talking therapies.
EMDR is the recommended treatment for trauma in national and international guidelines including the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
EMDR sessions last up to 1.5 hours to allow more time for memories to be processed.
If you find past memories are troubling you EMDR may help.
